hashtag fail.

Today was full of a lot of fails.

First:

I was in charge of feeding our friend Jim's cat, Brie, today, as he is out of town. I remembered I needed to do it and thought to myself, "you should feed her when you go to Target." Then I went to Target and came home and had my hands full so I didn't go.

This is Brie! Isn't she cute?

So needless to say, I waited until the sky looked like this:

A little ominous right, but not too terrible?

Oh yeah, by the time I walked downstairs and outside to Jim's apartment, it was raining cats and dogs (which is a stupid expression).

So needless to say, I looked like this when I came back inside:

#fail.

Speaking of other fails, see this shirt? When I bought it, it was like $8 at Victoria's Secret and I thought, "ooooh it's so soft, what a perfect sleeping shirt!"

Well, it was a romper. You know, a full fledged romper (similar shown below).
Let's just say that it looks about 12304982340 times better on the Victoria's Secret model than on me. I'm pretty sure Sam laughed when I walked out of our bathroom. Needless to say, I cut it off immediately and was left with the nice shirt I thought I'd have. Albeit with a totally jagged edge because of my terrible cutting skills.

#fail.

Last but not least... Remember the Boston Cream Pie I was going to make?
Their version...

My version.

#fail.

pinspiration sundays

I feel like I need a whole other website to organize my Pinterest boards. Does that make sense? Every time I look at it I feel overwhelmed because I've pinned 50 more things and I can't even remember all of it.

Therefore I'm implementing a new weekly Sunday blog post. I'm going to choose 3 different projects/recipes/outfits that I want to try and replicate the following week. Maybe that'll help me tackle some of the things I've been wanting to do and will keep things in line.

1. Boston Cream Pie done the easy way via The Girl Who Ate Everything

2. Creamy Tomato Tortellini via Recipe Swagger

3. Something for Valentine's Day.

Maybe this:

tower grover fun

Sam and I had a rare day off together the other day, and it was also 65 degrees in January, so needless to say we decided to take advantage of it! We decided to take a stroll around Tower Grover Park, which is pretty close by our apartment.

What a beautiful day in the neighborhood!!

DIY: hand painted canvas

I have to admit, I have Pinterest to think for this one as well. I have seen these lurking around for awhile and really liked the way they looked but knew I wanted to do it a bit differently.

Here's my inspiration:
{source}
I liked it but I wasn't crazy about doing white on top, because I wasn't super crazy about the fact that it's not really clean looking. So anyway, that was my inspiration.

Here's what I did.

1) I chose my saying. Actually, Sam chose the saying. One of my favorite songs (it's on my playlist that is called "A Team" so you know it's serious.) is called "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. In fact, it's one of my ringtones, that is how much I love it. So when Sam suggested I make my saying "Home is wherever I'm with you," I was like uh, duh. However, he also added the suggestion that we take out the word "is" and make it a definition.

2) I bought a canvas and divided it into 4 equal sections.

3. I took some stickers found at Michaels and stuck them down to the canvas to paint over....
...like so. I used all different shades of green and just sort of went at it. I didn't do it in any particular order, I just chose to be abstract. I used 5 different shades, and I think that was a perfect range, but you could honestly do whatever you wanted to in terms of color.

4. After everything was dry-ish, I peeled up the stickers and was left with (mostly) clean white lines and a super canvas to hang on our wall!

5) Sam measured things out on the wall and we hung it up. I had been meaning to find something to dress up our guest bathroom a little bit, and this was the perfect addition.

it's flammable?

So, I found this really awesome rug at Anthropologie for $30 the other day. It's totally cute, right? It fits perfect right there in the corner of our bathroom under the sink? I thought so too!

So I saw the tags sticking out from underneath it, so I picked it up to tear them off. And this is what I found:

Uhhhhh...oops?

DIY: homemade magnets.

One thing that I managed to never accumulate throughout college and the time after were magnets. I am kind of notorious for getting rid of things, so I'm definitely not the kind of person to keep old pizza place magnets or whatever. Therefore, when I moved out, I had no magnets.

One would think that magnets would be cheap. Maybe they are. However, the cheapest I found were these:

at Target. I mean, they were only $2.50, but I thought to myself, "Molly, you can find a better deal than that. And they'd probably be cuter than those magnets anyway."

And voila: I did what I do best. I made them myself.

So here's what I did.

I took a bag of 20 different rocks (found in the floral section at Michaels for $2.50--hence the same price as the 6 cheap not unique magnets found at Target)...

Then I took these magnets, also found at Michaels, which I got for $3.00 for a package of 50 with a 40% coupon (so, if anyone else needs some homemade magnets...I have a lot of leftover magnets...).

Glued these to the back of the rocks..
(Don't steal my fingerprints!)

And voila! 20 unique, totally awesome magnets.
I love these more than any other cookie cutter magnets than I see at the stores, plus I got to spend my afternoon crafting and watching Parenthood. Bonus.

pet peeves.

source
Pet peeves. We all have them.

I have been thinking about mine a lot lately because there are several that have happened a few days in a row and it's starting to drive me bananas.

Elevators
I cannot stand it when I push the up or down button for an elevator, and then as I'm standing there waiting for it, someone else walks up behind me and pushes the same button. It makes me want to turn around and say "oh! I didn't realize you had the magical power to summon an elevator faster than me!" Seriously. If you are in that much of a hurry, take the stairs.

Another elevator pet peeve? When someone sees you walking briskly (or running, sometimes, in my case) to the elevator, and they just watch you walk/run without pushing the door open button. WTF? You can't hold the door for 5 seconds for me? Rude.

Male Greetings
When I greet people, I usually use their names and say hello. For example, if I were greeting Sam, I would say "Hi, Sam." or "Hey, Sam, how are you?"

Several of my male friends reply to this the same way. Instead of saying "Hey, how's it going," or something equally benign, they say "What's up?" I HATE WHAT'S UP. I am so awkward when I reply. "Oh, not a lot, just fill in the blank." So awkward.

Bad Drivers
See this blog entry.

What are your pet peeves?

they say it's your birthday

It's my mom's birthday :). Isn't she beautiful? I missed out on her eyes, which are my favorite feature.

Happy 50th Birthday, Mom. You've taught me more about strength, perseverance, laughing, and love than anyone else I know. Words can't express how happy I am that you're here to celebrate this milestone. I love you!

2013

Oh hey, it's 2013 in case you've been living under a rock.

Or, in my case, you've been living at a hospital (working).

2012 was a pretty darn good year, if I do say so myself.

I graduated from nursing school, making it my second college degree within two years (yes I know I am a crazy person).

I passed my nursing boards on my first try only ten days after graduating, holllaaaa.

I went wayyyy out of my comfort zone and moved across the state away from all of my family and most of my friends for a boy.

I drove with said boy a total of 24 hours round trip to watch one of my best friends in the world make her way down the aisle, and along the way we made some new friends (some new best friends) and strengthened some old friendships.

Oh yes, and I did the previous four items in a matter of 3 weeks.

I started a new job in one of the best children's hospitals in the entire country.

I went to 5 other weddings, and fortunately no funerals.

And I also turned 25.

I was joking around with my brother when I was at home a few weeks ago and I said "I AM TURNING 25 AND I HAVEN'T EVEN ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING WITH MY LIFE!" to which he replied "What did you want to accomplish that you haven't?". I said "Marriage (of course), my first child, traveling through Europe (or just leaving the US), etc."

And he gave me a little perspective... "Yeah, but you have two college degrees and a pretty baller job." and I also have a great boyfriend, fabulous friends who I love so much, and an amazing family. Pretty awesome accomplishments for a 25 year old, if I do say so myself.

I'm convinced that 2013 will only get better. Here are some things that I'd like to accomplish:

  • End the year healthier than I started it (check out this page to follow my progress!).
  • Set a budget and stick to it.
  • Pare down my belongings.
  • Spend more time outdoors.
  • Make at least 5 new friends in this city.
What are you hoping to accomplish in 2013?
