The Pitfall of Pinterest.

I have discovered something terrible about Pinterest.

Yes, it is a source of spectacular ideas for crafting, cooking, and clothing. I love being able to store ideas there for my make-believe wedding and make-believe children. I also like being able to share these ideas (and more) with my closest friends (plus thousands of strangers).

What I do NOT like?

Is that you find the perfect, perfect dress for your best friend's wedding:

via Loft.com
And it sells out online in 2 days before you get to buy it. Okay it's a new arrival, so I KNOW that's not this issue. They aren't even carrying it in stores yet (I know, I've called 3 times to my local Loft)!

So why do I blame Pinterest?

Because I pinned this dress to show aforementioned best friend, and it was repinned 5 times in about 5 minutes. And that's just from my pin! Who knows how many times others repinned that from those 5 pinners. If you assume 5 more people pinned 5 times, then that's 25 times. And if each of those 25 people had it pinned 5 times...okay you get my drift.

The purpose of this post is twofold.

1) If you happen to be in your local Loft store and SEE THIS DRESS, contact me ASAP (I'm assuming most of my readers have my phone number, but if some reason you don't, you can email me). I'm not kidding. I once made Sara go to an Anthropologie in Texas to look for a dress I wanted. That was another pinning disaster, I'm certain.

2) To warn you of the dangers of Pinterest. I've warned you, so you must decide if you wish to continue pinning and run the risk of these strangers buying the dress that you just know is perfect. I of course will continue to take that risk, because even though I'm irritated I love Pinterest far too much to quit.

pre-test randoms

I have a final tomorrow in my Community Health class (ugh), so instead of studying...that's right, I'm facebooking, blogging, and g-chatting w/ one of my bffs!

Ready for 10 random thoughts in 10 minutes? Thought so.

1) I need to start studying for my boards. Really, really, really need to get on that.

2) If I don't get an interview for a job in St. Louis I will be a) devastated and b) not seeing Sam for 2 months, most likely. It's one of those things where the stars have aligned and decided that we should have "off" weekends at different times, and with his finals coming up...it's not looking great. Good thing I'm so busy right now!

3) I've been watching American Idol and this gentleman:
source

is my favorite. He plays the piano! and sings! so it's a huge shocker that I love him. He reminds me a little bit of someone else I love (Andrew...).

4) I went out on the town the other night and saw a lot of random people...a friend from school...my brother (hello, awkward)...and one of my college roomies (Kendra)! Oh how I've missed her!
Not from that night, but isn't she gorgeous?!

5) I just discovered that my other college roomie has a blog! It's much more polished than mine. If you are interested in healthy living, Michelle is an AMAZING inspiration! She is an avid runner and if I had a tenth of the motivation she does to run (and eat healthy), I'd be much further along in my "500 miles in 2012" plan.
Roommates all 4 years of undergrad...I can't believe it's been almost 2 years since we last lived together!

6) I can't stop thinking about the Hunger Games. So many people didn't like it and it makes me wonder if I overlooked a lot of details in the books. I did read them really fast (I finished the first in 5 hours), so I may need to go back and reread them!

7) I got to go to A's dress fitting this weekend and she looked GORGEOUS. I can't wait for the actual wedding!!!

8) I came down with my semi-annual sinus infection this week. I hate how it knocks me out of commission for a few days. I need to learn how to combat them faster since doctors usually won't prescribe me antibiotics ("It's not severe enough." Well, sir, maybe not for YOU), and I have a feeling that my next job won't be as flexible as my last in terms of sick days.

9) I am on the hunt for a new series to read...or even just a new book. Any suggestions?

10) I should maybe start studying for that final now....

Oh what a week!

When it rains, it pours.

Seriously. It's apparently monsoon season here in Missouri, and it has rained for like the last 5 days. I shouldn't complain because it's at least not snow, but c'mon. Where are my beautiful spring days?

Taken on my run by the lake this week.
On Tuesday I went out to start my car and whaddya know? It didn't start. Luckily my parents were out of town and my brother was in town so I had 3 other cars to choose from. I came home from class and whaddya know? It started right up. Needless to say, I could tell that something was wrong and that something was definitely NOT the battery. I know the difference after having a car that had to be jumped roughly 37 times in one semester at Mizzou.

I had my community health rotation this week, which meant I was following a nurse around in my car Wednesday and Thursday. My car held out until I was on my way to meet a friend at the Plaza yesterday...went into Quik Trip to change out of my professional clothes, come back out...and my car is, for a lack of a better term, dunzo (Laguna Beach anyone?). My brother came to try and jump it, that doesn't work (remember how I said I KNEW it wasn't a battery problem?) and we ended up having to have it towed 30 miles back go Smithville. Yikes. What a hefty tow bill that was...

Anyway, one new starter later, my car is good as new (minus the broken AC...).

It would be easy to say that this broken down car ruined my week, and normally I would let it. However, a lot of excellent things happened this week, so I'm going to let those overshadow the bad :).

First, my mom's tumors are still shrinking! Woo hoo. For those of you that don't know, my mom was diagnosed with melanoma 6 or so years ago (when I was a freshman at mizzou), and after some ups and downs, she was cancer-free by the time I was in my fall semester of my senior year. Unfortunately, cancer fights dirty and it came back with a vengeance during the spring of my senior year. Fortunately, she had some an amazing doctor at KUmed (the only time I will praise KU is in terms of the hospital) who linked her into NIH, where she's been going since August of 2010. Now she's pretty darn close to cancer-free again. If you know anything about metastatic melanoma, you know that's pretty awesome.

Second....

May the odds ever be in your favor!
Happy Hunger Games! I love that my nursing friends nerd out about all of this stuff as much as I do, and we went to the midnight premiere. I really liked the movie, though I know others who did not.

That's about all the excitement I can take for one week. I'm going to chalk all of the rambling in this post to the fact that I only got about 4 hours asleep last night. Well worth it to see The HG at midnight!

sunday runs

Okay, okay. I know. I have been absent from all mentions of running, eating healthy, etc in addition to the rest of the blog lately. My bad.

Via
February was a rough month--I was in my critical care rotation at school and it was pretty rough. I didn't have a lot of free time, and the free time I DID have I honestly didn't feel like spending working out. Needless to say, February was an epic fail.

March has been going MUCH better. I'm more on pace with what I was running in January, and I've been watching what I've been eating. I've hit sort of a plateau as far as the scale goes, but I have noticed little things, like some clothes either fitting better or being slightly too big (particularly my workout clothes. It's horrible to try to run and hold up your shorts at the same time!).

The wedding I'm attending in FL is in a little less than 3 months (yay! so excited), so while I know I won't be at my goal weight/size by then, I think I will still be at the point where I'm a little more comfortable hanging out on the beach!

PS: This is my 99th blog post. Whoa. I should probably make 100 something special.

spring break 2012

Sam and I had big plans for spring break originally (Austin, Nashville, Chicago were all ideas thrown around), but since we're both poor students, our crazy destinations were KC and St. Louis.

The gorgeous weather we've been having in the Midwest have made this week especially feel like a vacay, which is maybe why I'm having a hard time getting motivated to do all of the homework and fill out all of the job applications I should be working on. Instead, I've been watching a lot of movies, spending a lot of time outside, and generally avoiding the reality check I'm going to be hit with on Monday. Yikes.

We started off the week with one of my best friend's wedding reception at the National Airline History Museum in downtown KC. She got married out of town in November, and had her in town reception here this past weekend.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have pretty friends.

Friends for a long, long time.

What a handsome man.
The next day, Sam and I headed back to St. Louis to hang out for a couple of days.

On Monday, we went to the zoo because it was GORGEOUS outside. Unfortunately, we didn't look up the time or anything, and we got there at 3:30...FYI, the zoo closes at 5:00 on weekdays. We speed-walked through the exhibits, which was fine, because we've gone a bunch of times, and it was fun just to be out in the nice weather.

I don't know that I've ever noticed anteaters at the zoo before, but they are SO WEIRD.

The elephants are one of my favorite exhibits.

Sam's enjoying the exhibit!

Camels are also weird creatures.

Do they spit? Sam and I couldn't remember, and there were a couple of people debating this around us too.

Has anyone noticed how incredibly windy it has been lately? Although I'll admit, the breeze was nice while we were walking around.

The bears!

Apparently these penguins lives somewhere where the air is hot and the water is freezing, which is why they can acclimate so well to the temperature here. I'm not sure I buy it but it makes me feel a little better about penguins living in St. Louis.
One day I got to have lunch with another one of my besties, J. You probably recognize her from earlier posts! I have missed her a lot. She's crazy busy because she's in nursing school as well...although our goal is to work at the same hospital so we can see each other all the time :).

Since I've been home I've just been chilling with this little man. He's been following me around like a shadow. I guess he doesn't really understand where I went for 5 days. Sorry, babe. Bella doesn't really care that I was gone. Typical.

Today I've been staring at my homework pile and decidedly ignoring it. I've also been mourning Mizzou's loss in the NCAA basketball tournament (I picked them to win in BOTH of my brackets. Ugh). I've also been rejoicing in Duke's loss for the past few minutes, even though I picked them to go to the Elite 8.

I know I've been a total slacker in the blogging world lately. Really all I do is go to school, come home, apply for jobs (I'm up to 20 or so, so far), do homework, and lament about the fact that I should be doing more than I already am. I can't wait for this process to be over. If only I could have a glass ball to peek into the future so I'd know in 3 months or so everything would be figured out!

I do have some exciting events coming home (some more wedding events!) so hopefully I'll keep up on my blog posts so people will know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth :).

I'll be back to regularly scheduled posts when

1) my writer's block goes away
OR
2) my life gets semi-exciting again.

Hope you're all hanging tight in the windy weather we've been having lately!
